Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER NAUMKO October 20, 1931 - March 30, 2006 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father, husband and brother. Walter peacefully passed away at home on March 30, 2006. Walter leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Lovie of 44 years; his sons Robert, David and Kenneth (Roxane); his sister Olga Skrybalo (Steve); niece Sharon (Rob) and their family; nephew Gary (Leanne) and their family and his sister Ellen Naumko. Walter was born in Winnipeg on October 20, 1931 to his loving parents Jeffrem and Katherine Naumko. He grew up in the Point Douglas area and attended Norquay School to grade 8; grade 9 he attended Aberdeen School. High School matriculation saw Walter at St. John's Tech thus graduating in 1948. This was followed by his attendance at the University of Manitoba, graduating with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1953. For the next three years he worked with the provincial government in Water Resources at sites such as, the Duck Mountains, Pine River and Waterhen with bridge diversion. In 1956 he pursued and achieved his masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto. Upon graduation, he and a friend incorporated a Geo Technical Company and serviced companies in the Northwest Territories on the Dew Line and in Alaska. He then travelled to do technical work in Shannon, Ireland and upon his return to Winnipeg in 1961 he and Lovie were wed. Subsequently, he began work as an assistant bridge engineer with the City of Winnipeg. Here he worked in different capacities for 35 years retiring at the age of 64 as a manager of works and operations. Some of his projects included the St. Vital Bridge, Slaw Rebchuck Bridge and work on many of the city's main thorough fares and minor bridges. His retirement years were spent enjoying his family and tending his flower garden. A private family interment has been held and a memorial service will be planned for a future date.
